A Blueprint for Regenerating Uganda’s Food System

We are happy and proud to announce our second publication. Please find the Rootical Blueprint for Regenerating Uganda's Food System through Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship via the link below.

Rootical has developed a unique approach to identify and prioritise key challenges and design opportunities in the food system, based on a participatory food system analysis that involved more than 800 hours of combined brainpower.

The Rootical bottom-up venture building process starts with an intensive problem loving phase: during the 2023 Rootical Food System Leadership bootcamp, 40 Ugandans (50% women) engaged in a comprehensive training and participatory food system analysis — to identify priority challenges and address them by building regenerative agri-food businesses.

A visual food system map for Uganda, with a number of feedback loops, really allows to understand and navigate the complexity and particularities of the Ugandan food system dynamics. This led to a clear understanding and accessible insights on where to intervene, the so-called leverage points, to have a major impact with limited resources.

When we shared this food systems map and our findings, we noted great interest in the results and insights of this analysis. We also observed strong interest in the methodology to go through this mapping exercise with other types of stakeholders (CSO, farmer coops, etc.) to fine-tune their interventions and re-think, re-design them based on a deeper understanding of the dynamics, challenges and opportunities in the food system.
